Toy Story 5 Teaser Pits The Beloved Duo Versus a Tablet Computer

Exactly 30 years since the original Toy Story movie debuted, establishing the animation giant as a major film company and introducing viewers to iconic characters like Woody (the actor) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now household names.

Coming in 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed this week, offering a brief look into the plot but keeping fans wondering how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Gang

In the teaser reveals Bonnie — who inherited Andy's toys when he grew up — receiving a brand new toy, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie acquires her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.

Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the characters seem to view it as a threat coming to replace them, which it likely will.

Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

One thing the teaser avoids is why Woody is back with his friends in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a new adventure with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), traveling with a carnival and assisting prize toys locate loving owners.

Certainly, the filmmakers will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting without warning is a little strange, however. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have come back with him. And what about the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?

Connections from the Previous Film

At the very least, some elements are continuing from the earlier movie. The final act Woody did before departing for his fresh path was pass his symbol of authority to Jessie (the voice actor), entrusting her as the leader of the toy domain. The clip displays the badge pinned to her shirt.

Hopefully she is remains the key figure among the group.

Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
