Roughly 50 automobiles have been marked with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to police.

Vehicles, exterior walls and mailboxes were defaced, in some cases with swastikas, they stated in a release.

Law enforcement report they were notified during the night on Wednesday night, when a man noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish liquid.

The liquid had been drawn in the form of a Nazi symbol, they stated.

Police then found numerous other smeared cars and house walls in the surrounding area.

Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.

Police report early analysis indicate the liquid was probably human blood.

"Currently there is no indication as to its origin; officials are presently not informed of any harm in relation with the incident," they commented.

Local authorities stated they were attempting "to unravel the case" and have appealed to the community for tips.

An important official stated the attack left him stunned and had to be solved rapidly.

"This event affects the center of Hanau and revives the wounds of the extremist violent incident in 2020," he stated on social media, recalling the death of nine victims by a shooter targeting residents of foreign heritage in five years prior.
