A two-month cruise through the Australian Coast has been cancelled days after the death of an older female passenger who was stranded by the cruise liner on a remote island.

The passenger had been trekking on the tropical location with other travelers from the vessel, but broke off from the party for a break. The vessel left without her and went back several hours later after the ship staff became aware the lady was unaccounted for.

A large-scale rescue mission located her person the following day.

Officials are investigating the incident, alongside investigators and the state coroner.

The CEO of the voyage organizer stated that travelers and staff on the Coral Adventurer were told that the continuation of the journey had been terminated due to the "sad loss and prior technical problems".

In a statement, he added that guests would be provided a complete reimbursement, and said the organization was working "to organize the homeward trips of the individuals via private aircraft".

Authorities also issued an revised statement, and said they had "issued a directive to the Captain" preventing any additional guests from boarding the vessel.

The spokesperson said that they would attend the ship in the Australian city upon its return.

Timeline of Occurrences

The liner first departed Cairns on October 24th, and was only 48 hours into the voyage at the point of the senior passenger's death. Lizard Island was the first stop on the itinerary.

Travelers on board - who generally pay tens of thousands of dollars to participate in the voyage - were ferried there for a day trip with the choice of trekking or snorkelling.

Relatives Reaction

The offspring of the victim said that her relatives was "surprised and grieved that the vessel left the location after an scheduled outing without my mother".

Through her comments, she described her parent as an "active elderly person" who was a member of a bushwalking club.

"According to scant facts we have been informed, it looks that there was a breakdown of attention and basic judgment," she stated.

She added that she hoped the examination would be able to determine what "the company should have undertaken that might have saved Mum's existence".

"Based on information from the investigators that it was a extremely warm period, and mother fell ill on the uphill trek," she stated.

"She was asked her to head down, without accompaniment. Then the ship departed, reportedly without conducting a roll call.

Company Position

Through an announcement, the CEO affirmed that the operator was "cooperating fully with authorities to assist their investigation".
